A well-rendered example depicting the goddess with hands held to her chest, wearing an applied broad collar, the face with large beaked nose and applied circular eyes, her notched hair pulled back into a broad rectangular chignon.
The goddess Astarte is associated with ancient fertility cults. "Astarte" is the Canaanite version of the name "Ishtar" who was the Mesopotamian goddess of love and war.
Dimensions: Height: 4 3/4 inches (12 cm)
Condition: Rejoined, possible reconstruction to the lower torso, with mineral deposits to the exterior, a chip to the base.
Provenance: Private collection of a diplomat, MD acquired while assigned overseas in the 1950-1960's.
