the pectoral of rounded form with large cabochon carnelian centrally set within a high carat gold bezel edged with a rope border and with thirteen raised bosses all with rope borders, two suspension loops on the reverse.

A similar example, set as a pendant can be found in the British Museum, the form of the pectoral and the method of inlaying are characteristic of Parthian jewellery with such objects usually dating between the 1st and 3rd centuries. 

Dimensions:  Diameter: 1 5/8 inches (4.12 cm)

Condition:  small chip to the central cabochon otherwise intact and in excellent condition overall. A unique and stunning example.

Provenance:  Private NYC collection, previously Anavian family collection acquired in Iran by David and Henry Anavian, prior to the departure of the Shah in 1979.
