ef1506
An Egyptian Faience Ear Spool, 18th Dynasty, Amarna Period, ca 1352-1336 BCE
Ear-studs, similar to this example, are shown mostly in tomb banqueting scenes worn by female musicians or girls bringing fruit and flowers to guests. They also appear in some funerary scenes, where they are worn by the wife and daughters of the deceased. This ear stud has a slight groove around the periphery and a hole in the center. The surface face is flat and dominated by an incised rosette within an unembellished margin. They were fashionable during the late 18th Dynasty and the similarity of the disk shape to that of the sun disk, suggests an Amarna dating.

Bibliography: El-Saady, Hassan.
